You can surf the net, send emails, instant messaging, study, compose documents, manage accounts and spreadsheets, view PowerPoint presentations and lots of other work.  "Kinda sorta SERIOUS toy!" 2010-08-12
By J. D. Patterson (Sunshine State, United States)
I bought one of these thinking I could gift an older friend of mine, to shove (make that drag) him into the world of computing, web crawling, etc.. but found after a few hours of playing with this minibook, that it was really too complicated for a newbie. The learning curve seemed too ponderous for me as the prospective teacher, so I give this wee wonder ONE DEAD MOUSE, and have abandoned all plans to pass it along to my computer illiterate pal; my loss and his gain.

In brief, the GOOD news - it is small, cheap, does have Win CE OS and the GUI looks comfortably Windows-like, The LCD TFT screen, albeit small, is bright and boasts a decent resolution. And I got it into my network by simply inserting the correct key so I could go quickly into cyberspace like the big boyz.

More briefly, the BAD news - the touch pad is dismally slow, shaky (a USB mouse solved that problem). It is almost impossible to upgrade the OS. It has no peripherals and the USB ports on my model were 1.0. Once aloft, and web crawling (really crawling), the pages loaded so slow I fell asleep. This little minibook hates java so beforewarned, it is not a fun, sprightly experience to surf the web with a cracked unwaxed board.

If you search for this species you will find a plethora of models, from bargain basement prices to $150+, all sharing the same build and look but all missing most of the bells and whistles. My review is for the mid-price range model - $ 99. Add a mouse, an SD card, maybe a nice carry case, this wee trickster might be the right gift for a young person as an intro to computing, Then again, a smartphone with a data plan might be much "smarter". You want a smile from a kid, not a smirk.

I would not recommend this to anyone aside from the rugged individualist, who has a casual hundred bucks to throw away. One can buy a gen-U-ine (but smallish) name brand, supported and warranteed, netbook from Toshiba, Acer, Asus, HP, etc.. and only have to spend a few hundred dollars more. These minibooks can be found new on eBay for as little as $39. That fact alone should tell you volumes.

My newest rule of thumb for gift-giving is... if I would not want it then why buy it for someone else?

 "Buyer Beware" 2010-07-28
By R. Shelley (NJ, USA)
I bought this from another website and have had nothing but problems with it. 1st the wireless does not pick up. I managed to get a wireless connection by sitting next to the router and even that kept dropping out. This is the slowest netbook I have ever seen, even loading the most basic websites takes forever. The netbook runs on windows CE which is not upgradable there are no programs that you can download onto it so you are stuck with what you get.

After having this for a month and only using it for a week the keyboard gave out, so now I'm returning it for a refund. I found out that there is no warranty on it, I'm not sure if the one being sold on this website comes with one so you better ask. I have had the biggest nightmare getting my money back. Pay the extra 100 or so dollars and get something much much better

"This Mini Netbook Laptop is a cheap toy!" 2010-07-09
By David L. Wegman (Swansboro, NC USA)
I bought one of these, got it in the mail yesterday, and didn't expect much for the low price that I paid, but at least I had hoped it would power up and last longer than 3 hours. I got it turned on, got it to connect to my home network for about 20 minutes, got disconnect and could not get it to reconnect to my home networking system even after sitting right in front of the router. The touch pad caused the cursor to erratically jump all over the display so had to connect a mouse to one of the USB ports. About 3 hours into trying everything to connect to my network I heard a faint "pop", the display went blank, I could smell that electrical overheating odor, and the back of the display lid began to feel warm. I depowered it and emailed the seller. Even though I paid for an additional 1 year warranty I now find out that the warranty is with a 3rd party, not with the company that I purchased it from. If I return it for a refund (at this time I have not received a return authorization) I will be charged a 25% "restocking fee" plus pay the return postage. I'll just have to take my losses but at least have learned a lesson... buy a name brand from a reputable company. You get what you pay for.

"Okay for what it is" 2010-06-13
By Steven J. Ursell (Virginia Beach)
I didn't expect much for $100 and I was not disappointed. I finally got it connected to the internet and surfed for a few hours. Typing anything more than a few sentences is not possible for adult hands and sites with more than text takes time--as mentioned by the seller. However, my biggest issue is with security. I can't find a site to scan the netback and I am leery of entering passwords into a machine that might be shipped with malware. This is not a major supplier and I don't want to trust someone with my information. Until I scan the machine I will only use it for surfing or Facebook. Too bad.

Also, I can't find any WinCe programs so whatever is on the machine is what you have. An eBook reader, updated movie player, and a choice of browser would be at the top of my wish list.

When I couldn't get onto the internet the supplier was responsive to my email, but the suggested solution did not work.

I have spent much more money on a poor dinner so I don't feel like I am out much money, but it would've been nice to toss this netback into my briefcase and use it securely for personal email as well as Facebook and surfing.
